A Collection of Art Medals formed by Christian Christensen

Christian Christensen

Christian Christensen

We are pleased to offer the small but choice collection of Art Medals formed by the late Christian Wilhelm Christensen (1886 - 1964). Mr Christensen moved to France in 1908 and worked for Maison Rouard, the Paris departments store, until 1918. From 1918 to 1930 he was mercantile director for Lalique, and from 1930 to 1959 he was managing director of the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory in his native Denmark. The collection is particularly strong in French Art Deco pieces, many of which Mr Christensen would have been in a position to acquire at the time of issue - and it includes several examples which are seldom seen in commerce today. Me Christensen, who also collected rare bookbindings and Lalique glass, was an official representative of Denmark at the Paris Expo of 1937, and the medals he received on that occasion is also included in the sale.
