Simmonds 1st Infantry.); British War and Bilingual Victory Medals (Sjt. E. Simmonds 1st Infantry.); Jubilee 1935 (44581 W.O. II. E. Simmonds. R.D.L.I.) contemporarily engraved naming; Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal, G.V.R. (No. F.2353. Sgt. E. Simmonds. 1st. Infy. (D.L.I.)); Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decoration, G.V.R., the reverse engraved ‘Lieut. & Q.Mr. E. Ernest Simmonds was awarded his Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal in February 1921 and the corresponding Officer’s Decoration in mid-1938. He is included in a group photograph illustrated in the official unit history ‘The Durban Light Infantry’ by A. C. Martin.
