Alaun John Douglass was born in 1959 and in 1975, as a fifteen-year-old Army Cadet, was presented to the Prince of Wales (later H.M. King Charles III) at a St. David’s Day Parade at Caterham Camp. Attesting for the Welsh Guards, he served with them in Northern Ireland from October 1979 to February 1980, and subsequently in the South Atlantic, were he survived the bombing of the Sir Galahad on 8 June 1982 unscathed.
