Keith Eric Carpenter was born in Littlehampton on 31 October 1939 and attested for the Royal Army Pay Corps at Brighton on 28 March 1958. He was promoted Corporal on 8 April 1959, and Sergeant on 8 April 1964; and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Army Pay Corps on 28 August 1965. Promoted Lieutenant on 28 August 1965, Captain on 17 December 1967, and Major on 17 December 1974, he retired on 14 February 1978.
