John Condon was born in Limerick c.1839 and saw active service in India with the 3rd Bengal European Regiment during the Great Sepoy Mutiny. He transferred to the 76th Regiment of Foot on 29 October 1860, and was appointed Paymaster Sergeant of the 1st West India Regiment on 1 March 1868. Promoted Quartermaster Sergeant on 18 May 1874 he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 1 January 1879, and was discharged on 29 November 1881. He was awarded his Meritorious Service Medal, together with an Annuity of £10, on 25 November 1899, and died in Edmonton, London, on 21 October 1911.
