Government of India, a sheet of Portals watermarked papers intended as trials for the 5 Rupee note of 1866, displaying four different designs, or partial designs, for the new notes which were intended to replace the ‘Victoria head’ issue of five years previous, none of the designs are identical to the one chosen but several are very similar, as produced, a superb record of the design process (4 watermarks, 1 sheet)
