James McDonald was born at Stradbally, Queen’s County and enlisted into the Irish Guards on 28 October 1907. Serving in the 1st Battalion, he landed with the B.E.F. on 13 August 1914. He returned Home from 27 October 1914 to 29 March 1917, before returning to the Western Front.
