John Watts, a Labourer from Allington, Bedford, attested into the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, aged 19, at Westminster, on 29 January 1856. He served in India with the 1st Battalion and was present at Lucknow during the Great Mutiny. Advanced Corporal on 5 October 1866, his L.S.G.C. was issued under Army Order 43 of 1876, with a £5 gratuity, and he was further advanced Sergeant on 11 August 1876. He was discharged in Dublin on 20 January 1877.
