Boer War, 1899 or later, a brass satirical anti-British medal, unsigned, bust of Paul Kruger three-quarters right, within wreath of thistles and thorns, burning building in background, date 1899 below, rev. bust of Edward three-quarters left within wreath from which drip tears that turn into coins, warship and rising sun behind, 190? below, 35mm (Hern 278; Laidlaw 0238; Sammlung Würzbach 4783). Nearly extremely fine, very rare £240-£300

This medal is variously attributed to Adolphe Rivet or the Austrian medallist Anton Scharff for the Viennese brewer Karl Adolf Ludwig, Baron Bachofen von Echt who wanted to highlight the plight of the boers under British occupation - their tears turning to gold coins bound for the British Treasury.
