La Revue des Deux Mondes, the influential French publication, whose most noted editor was Ferdinand Brunetière (1849-1906), was founded by Prosper Mauroy and Pierre de Ségur-Dupeyron on 1 August 1829. What began as an anodyne periodical was purchased by a young printer, Auguste-Jean Auffray, who convinced his college room-mate, François Buloz (1803-77) to edit it, which he proceeded to do from 1831 until his death.
