FRANCE, Office national de la propriete industrielle [National Office of Industrial Property], c. 1920, a plated bronze award plaque by L.-G. Bazor, robed female seated left at a desk, inscribing a paper on an easel, man standing at right pointing to a page on a manuscript, bookshelf in background, rev. winged torch above implements of mechanical industry, books on stand at left, tablet below named (M. Louis Rollin), edge impressed bronze and cornucopia, 67 x 49mm, 109.34g. Good very fine, rare £40-£60

Louis-Marie-Joseph-Etienne Rollin (1879-1952), b. Uzerche (dép. Corrèze), lawyer and politician; served in World War I, awarded the Croix-de-guerre and Légion d’honneur; député for the Seine, 1919-42 and 1946-52. Sold with much further background detail on the recipient.

The Office national de la propriete industrielle, the French patent office, was formally established on 9 July 1901; in April 1951 it was renamed the Institut national de la propriété industrielle and is today based at Courbevoie (dép. Île-de-France)
