Victoria (1837-1901), Sovereign, 1860

victoria dei grΛtia [unbarred A in GRATIA]

bare head left, hair bound up by two fillets; date below truncation

BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID : DEF :

Crowned shield of arms, two tied laurel branches around

Milled edge, 7.97g/6h (cf. Marsh 43; EGC 1133; Bentley 428; S 3852D)

Good very fine, the variety very rare [Graded NGC AU 58] £800-£1,000

This coin exhibits several additional minor flaws within the obverse legend: in VICTORIA the first I is without lower serifs; in DEI, all letters are without the lower left serif; and in GRATIA, aside from the unbarred A, the I is either without lower serifs, or they are poorly struck to the point of being undetectable.
