The building was originally the Remount Depot, established 1904, closed in 1937; the site was subsequently chosen to host one of the three army apprentice schools opened in 1947, with Arborfield specialising in training soldiers serving with the REME. The school was renamed Arborfield Army Apprentice College in 1966
