Edition of 3,000, originally sold for 15s. each. The RMS Queen Mary, built by John Brown on Clydebank for the Cunard Line, embarked on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York on 27 May 1936 and won the Blue Riband, for the fastest Atlantic sea crossing, that August; having lost it to the refitted SS Normandie in 1937, the prize was recaptured in 1938 and held until 1952. During World War II the vessel was converted into a troopship and on one voyage in July 1943 carried over 16,600 people, believed to remain the record for the most people on one ship, at sea, at the same time. The vessel was retired in 1967 and bought by the city of Long Beach to function as a tourist attraction
