Jules-Louis Breton (1872-1940), b. Courrières, dép. Pas-de-Calais, inventor and politician; student activist, imprisoned in 1894 for his views on President Carnot; deputy of Cher, 1898-1921; introduced tracked armoured cars and tanks to the war in France, 1916; Minister of Health, 1920-1; elected to the Sénat, 9 January 1921, serving until January 1930.
On 27 November 1879 the Palais de Luxembourg, originally built for Marie de Medici and completed in 1630, was assigned to the Senate
