Harry Cloy was born at Broughton, Manchester, and served as a pre-war Territorial soldier, being awarded his Territorial Force Efficiency Medal per Army Order 186 of 1909. Appointed Corporal in the 5th Battalion, Manchester Regiment, he transferred to the 1/6th Battalion as Sergeant and was further advanced Warrant Officer Second Class and appointed Company Sergeant Major. Disembarked at Gallipoli on 5 May 1915 as part of the 127th Brigade, 42nd Division, he witnessed heavy fighting at Achi Baba and Krithia before being killed in action on 7 August 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
