D.C.M. London Gazette 28 March 1918.
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in leading the line forward in a counter attack until held up by two strong points. He organised his men six times, leading them forward, and finally consolidating on the farthest objective gained. He was mainly responsible for breaking up a strong enemy counter attack. Although wounded, he remained throughout the operations.’
Albert Prescott, from Newport, Monmouthshire, attested into the South Wales Borderers for service during the Great War and served on the Western Front with the 6th Battalion from 24 September 1915. He saw further service with the 12th Battalion and transferred into the Royal Lancaster Regimnet, where he was advanced Acting Corporal. He was discharged ‘Class Z’ on 27 March 1919.
