Victor Ferguson was commissioned into the South Wales Borderers and served as Aide de Camp to Major General Frederick Carrington during the Matabele Rebellion of 1896. He is specifically mentioned in his dispatch; ‘Lieutenant Ferguson, South Wales Borderers, Aide-de-camp. rendered very valuable assistance to Captain Laing in the Matoppos. Accompanied Major Ridley’s patrol down the Guai river. Did much useful work in conveying my despatches across country.’ He served in South Africa during the Boer War. Later joining the Reserve of Officers, he joined MI5 and served during the Great War with the British Military Mission in Russia from September 1914. Sold with copied Medal Index Card, copied medal roll extracts and copied gazette entry.
