British Iron Age, DUROTRIGES, Uninscribed issues, silver Stater, Spread Tail type, devolved head of Apollo, two pellets above ‘eye’ and lines radiating to the eye from the wreath, rev. disjointed horse left, rectangular head, body of crescents, four vertical legs, pellets above, coffee bean above tail, large pellet below, 5.21g/7h (ABC 2160; BMC 2662, 2690; VA 1238-1; S –). Of pleasing bright appearance, well-centred and better than very fine £150-£200

Despite the absence of the tail, we can fairly assume that this coin belongs to the ‘Spread Tail’ group due to the two pellets and radiating lines on the obverse, which are exclusively seen on this type.
