Henry Bungay was born in the Parish of Wareham, Dorset, and enlisted for 39th Brigade at Weymouth on 11 October 1879, and served with the 1st Gordon Highlanders in Egypt 1882, in the Eastern Soudan 1884, and in the Nile Expedition 1884-85. He was discharged on 10 October 1891.
