Helston, William Penhalurick, Farthing, 1667, 0.88g/6h (N 539; BW. 16). Very fine £150-£200

Sir Marcus Clark Collection; W.J. Noble Collection, Part II, Noble Numismatics Pty Auction 61B (Melbourne), 3-4 August 1999, lot 20 [from R. Jewell 1969]; E. Bell Collection, Maxwells Auction (Hazel Grove), 4 April 2012, lot 268 [from N.A. Clark]; bt N.A. Clark.

William Penhalurick was valued at £10 in 1660 and paid a poll tax of 4 shillings. In 1661 he served as Mayor of Helston and contributed £1 towards the Free & Voluntary Present. A tin merchant, he featured in the coinage records of 1663. The British Museum has a passport, dated 1648, entitling a William Penhaluricke (perhaps the issuer’s father) to pass from the mainland to the Scilly Isles and Jersey.

Reference to this being the Norweb specimen in the Maxwells sale catalogue should be ignored
