Degory Bewes, son of John and Agnes, was baptised on 30 March 1628 at St Stephens-by-Launceston. In 1660 he paid poll tax of 10 shillings, and in 1661 he contributed the same amount towards the Free & Voluntary Present. In the St Stephens-by-Launceston Hearth Tax returns for 1664 he was taxed on 5 hearths. It would appear that he had as many as 10 children between 1656 and 1691, but some died in infancy
