Danelaw, After Alfred the Great’s Two Line type, Penny, copying Mercian dies, Eadwald, ælfred re+ irregularly spaced around small cross pattée, rev. eadvvald in two lines divided by pellet and two trefoils, 1.38g/6h (BMC 277, same rev. die; N 475/1; S 966). Good very fine and handsomely toned over sound metal; of quite reasonable weight and style and so presumably an early product of the Danelaw, rare thus £1,200-£1,500
