17th Century Tokens, Clarendon House [Piccadilly], Rob Shipton, Halfpenny, 1.44g/6h (D 656A, recorded from this specimen). Weak in parts and a trifle buckled, otherwise about very fine, extremely rare (£80-100)

Clarendon House, built in the mid-17th century at a cost of over £40,000, was situated on the north side of Piccadilly, close to the soon-to-be-vacated offices of Dix Noonan Webb Ltd. Samuel Pepys described it as “the finest pile I ever did see in my life.” It was demolished in 1683
