The mounted group of three miniature dress medals attributed to Major E. C. Haynes, 93rd Regiment and Army Pay Department, Indian Mutiny, 2 clasps, Relief of Lucknow, Lucknow; India General Service, 1 thin clasp, Umbeyla; South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879, mounted as worn from a compound silver buckle bar, contact marks, good fine and better (3) £50-70

Edward Court Haynes entered the Army in 1855 as an Ensign by purchase in the 93rd Regiment. Advanced by purchase to Lieutenant later the same year, he served with the regiment in the Indian Mutiny, 1857-59. He was present at the relief of Lucknow, battle of Cawnpore 6.12.1857, pursuit to Seraighat, action at Khalee Nuddee, occupation of Futtehghur, siege and capture of Lucknow including the storming of Bergum Kotee, the Rohilcund campaign, attack on Fort Rooyeah, action at Allygunge, battle of Bareilly, Oude campaign, actions at Pusgawn and Russulpore and capture of Fort Mithowlie. He was also in the Eusofzai campaign of 1863-64 and at the Umbeyla Pass under Sir John Garvock. Promoted Captain in 1867, he was placed on Half Pay in 1871. He entered the Army Pay Department in 1878 as Paymaster, becoming Staff Paymaster and Honorary Major in 1882.
