Alfred the Great (871-899), kings of wessex, Ælfred (871-875), First Coinage (c.871-875), Lunette (“Burgred”) type, aelbred rex, diademed bust right, reverse biarnmod moneta in three lines in and between two lunettes broken at angles, 0.92 gms (BMC ib; N. 627; S. 1057). Chipped rather severely, otherwise very fine, with very dark patina, rare (£400-500)
