William Hallam, b. Longton, Staffs., e. Warrington (Fenton), killed in action, France & Flanders 7.7.1916, 9th Battalion, formerly 7205 Scots Greys. Sold with 2 pages from the War Diary giving a detailed account of the operations at Ovilliers on July 7th in which casualties were heavy: ‘A’ Coy. was decimated, as were 2 Platoons of ‘B’ Coy., whilst ‘C’ Coy. was reduced to a strength of 40.
