Waterloo 1815 (Serj. Thomas Campbell, 1st Batt. 79th Reg. Foot), later clip and ring suspension, contact marks, edge bruising and severely polished, thus fair £1200-1500
Thomas Campbell was born in the parish of Hulkirk, near Thurso and enlisted in the 79th Regiment in April 1809, aged 23 years. A tall man for the age, standing at over 6 feet, he was advanced to Corporal in April 1809 and to Sergeant in October 1812: ‘He served for five years in the Peninsula, three years in France and five year eight months in Canada. He was present in the battles of Salamanca, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Toulouse and at the siege of Burgos. Wounded at the battle of Nive, slightly in the head at the siege of Burgos, and in two places at the battle of Waterloo’ (Discharge papers refer). Campbell was discharged at his own request in June 1831.
