Sergeant J.E. Corrie made a parachute jump from a disabled aircraft near Margate in the early morning of 18th June, 1941, and was consequently elected a member of the Caterpillar Club and presented with a gold Caterpillar brooch by the Irving Air Chute Company. He was posted missing, presumed killed, on 6 October, 1942, when his Lancaster W4188G failed to return from a bombing mission.
