Stirling Banking Company, Five Pounds, 12 September 180[–], 91/441, uniface black on white engraved by Kirkwood & Son (Douglas 1). Last digit of date covered by ink line, has been cancelled by crossed ink lines with ‘Paid’ at centre, edges with few nicks, otherwise fine and very rare (£1,200-1,500)
The bank failed in 1826 with estimated liabilities approaching £250,000, but all creditors were eventually paid in full
