An English silver mounted hanger, circa 1780 the unusually long 64cm curved blade with full length double fuller to either side the silver mounted hilt with the touchmark MB for Michael Barnett, scalloped recurved quillons, the quillon block chased with a scallop en-suite, fluted pommel, spirally reeded green stained ivory grip, complete with its blind tooled black leather scabbard with silver top locket and chape, the locket dot inscribed ‘Langford No 50 Fleet Street’ locket lacking frog-stud, scabbard with small neat repair otherwise good condition £500-600
Thomas Langford is recorded at 50 Fleet Street 1768-97; he was Warden of the Cutler’s Company in 1776. (The dotted script distinguishes from his father who worked from the same address).
Michael barnett is recorded as a hiltmaker circa 1784-1791.
The unusual length of the blade would suggest use as a cutto for evening walking-out wear.
