Charles Thomas Cartwright was born on 27 March 1820. Joining the Army as an Ensign on 6 February 1836, he sailed to India and joined the 15th Bengal Native Infantry on 12 September 1836. He was promoted to Lieutenant in October 1840 and Captain in September 1848. At that rank he served with his regiment at the final battle of the Second Sikh War. Captain Cartwright retired from the service on 23 July 1854 and died on 2 August 1856. Less than a year later his regiment mutinied at Nasiribad. Sold with some copied notes.
