Michael Kenny, Freagh Castle, solicitor and farmer, is shown as owning 312 acres of land in various directories of the 1870s. Another medal awarded to him in 1867 is in the county museum at Ennis. His son, Mathew (†1942, aged 81), also a lawyer, served as MP for Ennis in 1882 and for mid-Tyrone from 1885 to 1895; when originally elected he was the youngest member of the House
