Harold Furness Poppleton lived at Catford, was educated at the City of London School, and enlisted at Blackheath. He enlisted into the 20th Battalion London Regiment in September 1914 and went to France on 8 March 1915. He was in hospital for three months suffering from shell shock and an injury to the eye after the Loos attack on 26 September 1915. On 15 September 1916, when he was leading his platoon in the Somme fighting, he was severely wounded in the abdomen and died on 18 September. He was buried in the Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension. He was the son of C. H. and Annie Poppleton, of “Ashville”, 25 Graham Road, Purley, Surrey. Sold with copied research. Medals contained in a wooden glass-fronted frame - this not suitable for posting.
