A scarce regimental pattern sword for an officer of the Northumberland Fusiliers, 1897 pattern infantry officer’s sword, the 89cm dumbell section blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, No. 40570 for 1905, etched with crowned EVIIR cypher, foliate scrolls, regimental device of St George & Dragon, flaming grenade etc and battle honours to South Africa 1899-1902 and in a cartouche at the forte the owners initials JFCT regulation plated steel guard incorporating GVR cypher and with applied regimental badge, grip recovered in leather bound with copper wire, possibly a working life replacement, complete with its steel scabbard, blade rather worn and service wear overall £200-250

The sword of Julius Francis Chenevix-Trench D.S.O., born in 1885 son of Major-General F. Chenevix-Trench C.M.G., educated at Wellington College and the R.M.C.; commissioned into the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1906; serving during the Great War he was awarded the D.S.O. in 1918 and four times mentioned in despatches. He attained the rank of Lt-Colonel in 1933 and died in 1948.
