By a General Order of His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief, dated Calcutta, 14 January 1858, James Bryce was awarded the Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct. He also received a gratuity equivalent to £15 on his discharge in addition to his ordinary pension. In the above General Orders his name is spelt ‘Boyce’.
