B.E.M. London Gazette 1 January 1945. The original recommendation states:

‘For consistent devotion to duty under all conditions in the maintenance of Landing Craft Tanks. He has consistently shown energy, skill and cheerfulness in the arduous maintenance duties demanded of him and has materially affected the proportion of craft maintained operational in this area.’

Arthur James Howard, a native of South Fields, was serving in the 5th Landing Craft Tank (LC.T.) Flotilla at the time of the above cited deeds, which unit was then based in the Mediterranean.
