1889. Netherlands. Dolls Exhibition in Childrens’ Hospital, Utrecht, silver gilt medal, three dolls holding scroll, reverse bedside scene of a sick child, 50mm (Beg. 73; Zw. 825; Brett. 2985; Stor. 5333); together with another example in white metal. First good extremely fine and extremely rare in silver, second with few signs of wear but beginning to blister (£100-120)

A most unusual subject and a skilfully executed and touching medal. Well worth further research in local records. The rarity of the silver gilt medal suggests it was some kind of presentation piece rather than a souvenir of the event, especially as no examples appear to have been struck in bronze; the medals are usually in white metal.
