Henry I (1100-1135), Penny, Voided Cross and Fleurs type, Lincoln, Godric, GO[DR]IC [ON] LINCOL·, 1.29g/9h (Mossop –; Harris, SCMB 1985 –; BMC –; N 861; S 1266). Creased and with three small snicks in edge, the legend flat in places, otherwise about very fine with a good portrait, extremely rare; no coins of this type recorded for the mint £1,200-1,500

Provenance: Found near Northampton.

Harris (
SCMB 1985 p. 149ff) records no coins of BMC types III, IV, V and VIII for Lincoln; he gives Godric as a Lincoln moneyer for types II, X, then XII to XV and into Stephen’s reign; a unique [?] coin of type VI is also known (Mossop 11)
