Henry Alfred Cordier, who was born in Rochester, Kent in December 1915, died of illness aboard a hospital ship on 21 May 1941, after being evacuated from the cruiser H.M.S. Curacoa. The latter had already been awarded Battle Honours for Atlantic 1940 and Norway 1940, the latter distinction encompassing heavy damage inflicted by enemy bombers on 24 April which resulted in 30 casualties. Cordier is buried in Lyness Royal Naval Cemetery, and several modern photographs of his gravestone and the cemetery are included, together with three letters from his sister.
