Ronald Clifford Bailey was killed in action on 7 January 1944, when his ship the frigate Tweed was torpedoed by the U-305 off Ireland and sank within two minutes - there were 44 survivors, but Bailey was not among them. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. Tweed had earlier won Battle Honours for Biscay 1943 and Atlantic 1943-44.
