James Edward Parrott was killed in action on 23 January 1944, while serving in the destroyer H.M.S. Janus, on which date
she was hit by a torpedo from a German dive bomber and foundered in 22 minutes, with a loss of seven officers and 155 ratings. Janus had earlier won no less than 10 Battle Honours, including Matapan 1941, Sfax 1941, Crete 1941, Malta Convoys 1941 and Adriatic 1944. Parrott left a widow resident in Weymouth, Dorset, was 38 years of age and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
