Edward John Phillips was taken P.O.W. in Singapore while serving in 135th (The Herefordshire Yeomanry) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, and died in Japanese hands on 20 June 1943, aged 33 years - his C.O. was Lieutenant-Colonel P. J. D. Toosey, D.S.O., of River Kwai fame. Phillips is buried in the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Thailand; the above described forwarding box is addressed to ‘Mr C. E. Phillips, 228 Rockwell Green, Wellington, Som[erset].’
