Trinovantes, Early uninscribed issues, Quarter-Stater, Harlow type, trace of design, rev. horse right, three crescents in ‘smile’ formation and annulet above, pellet and horse-shoe below, 1.32g (BMC –; VA –; S –). Coppery gold, about very fine, extremely rare £300-400

Provenance: Found in Essex.

This coin seems to be a variant of the so-called Harlow quarter-staters, all of which have been found in the southern part of Essex around Basildon, Harlow and Southend
