Reginald Burton was born in Hanley, Staffordshire in October 1915 and entered the Royal Navy as a Sick Berth Attendant in September 1939. Having qualified in this rate at Drake, he joined the destroyer depot ship Greenwich in June 1940, in which capacity he remained employed until January 1945. He was released in January 1946, having qualified as a Leading Sick Berth Attendant back in January 1942; sold with a quantity of original documentation, including his original Certificate of Service, History Sheet and Order for Release from Naval Service, together with his “Brotherhood of the F.B.I.” certificate for 101 days in Icelandic waters, issued aboard H.M.S. Greenwich.
