Akerman, J.Y., Tradesmen’s Tokens Current in London and its Vicinity Between the Years 1648 and 1672. Described from the originals in the British Museum, and in several private collections. Large paper 1st edn, London, John Russell Smith, 1849. 4to, contemporary half leather, marbled boards. Title printed in red and black, some of the prelims bound in wrong order, 8 plates of tokens, viii, viii (lacking i-iv as usual), 257pp, interleaved, extensively extra-illustrated and with numerous MS additions and drawings. The volume incorporates an extensive collection of press cuttings, engraved views and portraits, drawings and engravings of tokens, together with the Advertisement and two portraits of Akerman; his autograph and a manuscript letter tipped in. Probably bound for Jacob Silburn in 1849 (signature and date), many annotations by Ambrose Heal on the interleaves. Extremely rare. (Manville 362). £800-1,000
