King’s South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps (Lieut. E. C. M. Layton, Imp. Yeo.) good very fine £120-160
Edward Charles Morris Layton was born in Putney, Surrey. A Farm Hand by occupation and a member of the Hants Carabineers, he attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Newport on 8 January 1900, aged 32 years, 1 month. He served in South Africa with the 41st Company 12th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, 30 January 1900-1 March 1901 when he was commissioned Lieutenant. As such he served with the 78th Company 20th Battalion and 76th Company 22nd Battalion Imperial Yeomanry.
Additionally awarded the Queen’s medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Transvaal and Wittebergen as Private 4630 in the 41st (Hants) Company 12th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry. With copied service notes.
