Harry Freeman was born in London in 1875. A Butcher by occupation, living in Cape Town, he attested for the Johannesburg Mounted Rifles on 4 September 1901. Discharged as time expired on 5 April 1902. In the Great War he served with the Yorkshire Light Infantry, entering the France/Flanders theatre of war on 26 August 1915. Awarded the 1914-15 Star trio. Later discharged and awarded the Silver War Badge. With Johannesburg Mounted Rifles service papers; roll extract; m.i.c. and a ‘Churchill’ crown plus two unofficial medals.
