Henry Gansz, proprietor of a general store and multifaceted business in Queen street that opened in 1853, had interests in shipping and newspapers. He married his book-keeper’s sister, Johanna Winzerling, c. 1890; on his death the Gansz business passed to his brother-in-law, George Winzerling, who had emigrated to Belize from Breslau
