The International Balloon Contest, held on 30 May 1908, attracted 31 competitors to race from the Hurlingham Club, Fulham, to Burchett’s Green Inn, near Maidenhead, a distance of 27 miles. The winning balloon, Valkyrie, was piloted by C.F. Pollock
